Steinway Youth Piano Competition 2020

Steinway Youth Piano Competition (SYPC) 2020

The Steinway Youth Piano Competition (SYPC) is part of the biennial Steinway Youth Festival organised by Steinway & Sons in Hamburg, Germany. Its purpose is to identify, encourage and promote young pianists in the formative stages of their careers.

GCA is proud to work together with Steinway Gallery Singapore as the event manager for Singapore SYPC 2018 & 2020.
In the 2018 Singapore SYPC, eleven-year-old Jessie Meng Yi Rui Xue emerged as the grand prize winner. Jessie is the youngest grand prize winner of the competition since its inaugural event in 2012, and topped eight other finalists aged between 9 and 16 years old at the competition which was held at School of The Arts Concert Hall. Thereafter, Jessie represented Singapore at the Regional Finals of the competition in Taiwan.

The 2020 edition will see the 5th edition of the Steinway Youth Piano Competition for young aspiring musicians age 17 and below. Similarly, the winner of the National Finals will proceed to the Regional Finals, where he or she will compete for the honor of representing Southeast Asia as a performer at the International Steinway Festival 2020 in Hamburg. Aside from the usual Professional Class, Steinway Gallery Singapore is proud to introduce a new component to the 5th Steinway Youth Piano Competition. The inaugural Amateur Class is for students who enjoy playing the piano for leisure but wish to have a formal recognition of their progress in their musical journey. Here the competition requirements are more flexible with no compulsory work required, hence students have the freedom to choose pieces that would best represent their musical development. The First prize winner from each category will have the opportunity to participate as an observer in the International Steinway Festival 2020.
