Fair Play
25 May, 22 June & 26 July 2019 / Parklane Shopping Mall
Fair Play is a series of pop-up carnivals organised by Global Cultural Alliance, as part of its efforts to build a more inclusive Singapore society through arts programmes. These programmes build capabilities of marginalised groups which include people with experiences of poverty, incarceration, offending and in need of mental health support.
For three days across three months, we transformed Level 8 carpark of Parklane Shopping Mall into an arts carnival. Organised by The RICE Company, we teamed up with Millet World to create the Millet Markets, featuring unique crafts and accessories handmade by local artisans and craftsmen and worked together with Yellow Ribbon Project to showcase the seldom-seen artworks produced by inmate-artists from the Visual Arts Hub of Changi Prison Complex in a pop-up art exhibition entitled ‘Human Too’.
The second edition of Fair Play in June proved a highlight when we brought together renowned artists Mr Sun Yu-Li and Mr Barry Yeow together with our friends previously from Visual Arts Hub at Changi Prison Complex to transform an empty wall into an art mural. Entitled ‘Turning Point’, this collaborative artwork depicted a coming together of individuals from various communities in unity and compassion.
