Landscapes of Heaven and Earth
2 September 2017 / 7.30pm-10pm / 18 Temenggong Road
WITH EFFECT FROM 1 SEPT 2020, TEMENGGONG 18/20 IS NOW KNOWN AS HILLSIDE1820.
Landscapes of Heaven and Earth took us for a journey through the boisterous gaiety of village life to the spiritual yearning of the great composers with the enchanting voices of A cappella Chor Villach, the award-winning choir from Austria that returned to Singapore for the third time since their last concerts in 2007 (NUS) and 2008 (Esplanade).
Having enthralled a wide international audience from Belgium, Japan, South Africa, England, Ireland, Berlin and Paris, the 162-year-old choir directed by Professor Helmut Wulz performed for a one-night-only concert a colourful and varied repertoire. The programme included works like Vitautas Miškinis’ Cantate Domino, Johannes Brahms’ Waldesnacht, du wunderkühle (Wondrously cool woodland night), Johann Strauss’ Kaiserwalzer (The Emperor Waltz) as well as well-loved folk songs from Carinthia and the region.
