Rhythms of Nature

Rhythms of Nature

23 March 2019 / Sengkang General Hospital

For over 14 months, we had the privilege of working with kinetic artist Edwin Cheong, wire sculptor Victor Tan, illustrator Brian Gothong-Tan and Augmented Reality (AR) artist Eugene Soh for a mixed-media, site specific installation at the heart of Sengkang General Hospital entitled Rhythms of Nature. Edwin Cheong’s Balance which stands in the water feature is symbolic of a grove of peach blossom trees while Victor Tan’s Free Will — 11 wall-mounted steel wire sculptures — depicts a flight of birds. Brian Gothong Tan and Eugene Soh’s three-part Of Time and Nature takes the form of different AR experiences that depict a fable and an imagined history.

Jointly conceptualised and curated by Global Cultural Alliance and The RICE Company Ltd, the work drew its inspiration from two sources: Sengkang’s early history as a fishing port and subsequently a rubber, pepper and pineapple plantation and the 5th century Peach Blossom Land myth of a utopia where people lead an ideal existence in harmony with nature, free from turmoil and unrest.

The installation is a permanent fixture, do pop by and remember to try out the AR component with your Facebook app!
