The Temenggong Parties & The Temenggong Celebrates
18 July 2019 / Temenggong 18/20
We had so much fun with friends and partners celebrating the first year anniversary of Temenggong 18/20. That night, we grooved to the rhythms of local band, Auburn Daze, were dazzled by a special poetry and music performances by our friends from the Philippines, Get Luckier (Get Lucky II) and got our creative juices flowing with a community art painting session entitled Parts of Me led by artist Barry Yeow and a community art installation and art therapy experience entitled The Two Sides by artist and art therapist Yoko Choi. The programmes played tribute to Temenggong 18/20 as a cultural sanctuary and its beliefs of “Bridging Borders” and “Building Communities”.
In addition, the first year anniversary marked the start of Temenggong Dialogues, a new initiative aimed at bringing community partners together for dialogue and sharing of resources to create a closer and more inclusive society. The inaugural session touched two main topics: The possibility of total care for marginalised groups: an end-to-end roadmap through arts and culture and Open Cities, Open Peoples: Fostering Cultural Exchanges for A Sustainable Future. These topics reflect our mission of building communities and bridging borders respectively. Over the 3 hours, this roundtable brought together members of different segments of society, ranging from policy-planners, freelance artists and individuals who represent beneficiaries themselves.
